Too often, international and domestic conferences about forced migration lack representation and inclusivity, and present refugees as passive recipients, not as potential change-makers and innovators. To counter this phenomenon as part of the Virtual Refugee Conference we launched the Impact Prize to identify and celebrate innovative solutions from all around the world which are inclusive for all, elevate learning, and most importantly, empower refugees. In this session, the winner of the Impact prize will be announced and will present their project to the audience. This is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of their solution, connect with global partners and share their story with a global community.

Jury

Flora Kwong is Chief Operating Officer at Kiron. Originally from Toronto, Canada, she is committed to social justice and equal opportunities initiatives. She is intent on helping organizations pursue these missions through innovative financial strategies and operational systems.

Heba Dakhallah (Jordan):  Representing Kiron Jordan in delivering education to refugees and undeserved communities through innovative tech solutions. With an extensive experience in working with UN agencies in humanitarian response across different sectors in the MENA region, mentioning; education, protection, women empowerment and gender based violence. She’s also a member of the Jordan Youth Innovation forum (JYIF) and Sigi (Sisterhood Global Institute Jordan).

Baptiste Ottevaere is Product Owner at Kiron. Originally from Belgium, living in Berlin for 6 years, former tax lawyer with a passion for Innovation. He strongly believes that “No mind should be lost in this world” and that user-centered & data driven technology is the best way forward to reduce barriers in education.

Dr. Markus Wachowski was Head of Academic Program and now works as a Project and Partners Manager at Kiron. In his prior position as Academic Director at Freie Universität Berlin he developed and coordinated a blended online-MA program with Israeli and Palestinian Universities. His field of expertise is integrative learning from all sorts of angles, like cultural diversity, traditional vs. non-traditional learning paths, the integration and recognition of alternative academic and non-academic credit systems and access to education in varying technological environments.
